Naw Thiri, May Aye is a Ph.D. fellow in Environmental Science and Technology with a focus on Ecological Economics at ICTA. Her current research explores ecological distribution conflicts with a particular focus on fossil fuel extraction/processing and their contribution to reducing CO2 emission. She received her Master’s of Arts Degree from the Department of International Development, Nagoya University, Japan. Her Master’s thesis focused on the women microfinance groups in marginalized communities affected by the tropical cyclone disaster in Myanmar. She has also researched Social Vulnerability and Environmental Migration after the Earthquake, Tsunami Disaster in North-Eastern Japan. May founded a volunteer organization for emergency relief activities for marginalized communities when she was an undergraduate student. She worked with several NGOs, working on community mobilization, and the United Nations Center for Regional Development (UNCRD) on Disaster Rehabilitation after the Great East Japan Earthquake in Japan.
